The Story of "Share the Dream Come True"
As she stepped through the gate that separated the backstage lot from the rest of the studio, Gene gasped, then laughed!
There, spread before her in the gathering California dusk was the studio's "Hometown Street" set, used whenever the studio needed to recreate a bit of homespun Americana. But tonight, Reuben Lilienthal, Monolithic Studio head, had gone all out. As a treat for his hard-working stars, he had "requested" his crew to decorate the street in all of its Halloween glory: papiêr-mêchê jack o' lanterns grinned ghoulishly, spun sugar cobwebs clustered on the hedges and silk autumn leaves blew up and down the street, urged on their journeys by powerful studio fans.
R.L. had even sent his stars specially-made Halloween costumes to "trick-or-treat" through his "Happy Haunting Ground." For Gene Marshall, he had picked a festive fairy princess costume, complete with gossamer wings, glittery slippersand, of course, a magic wand to let Gene Share the Dream Come True of a beautiful evening.
Suddenly, two crew members were at Gene's side, holding a flying halter. "R.L.'s orders, Miss Marshall," one of the crew men smiled. "He says that a fairy princess HAS to fly if she's out on Halloween!" And, making sure that Gene was safely secure, up, up and away she flew from door to door to collect her treats!
