The Story of "Handsome Devil"
Trent Says...
Who'd have ever thought it? Here I am, in beautiful Hollywood, standing in the Monolithic backlot with a bar of soap in my hand, eyeing one of the windows on a housefront-facade, about to recreate one of the most enjoyable memories of my not-that-distant youth...
When I heard that Reuben Lilienthal, in his ultimate wisdom as Monolithic Studios head, was planning to send us all trick-or-treating on the "Hometown Street" set, my heart skipped a beat. I had one of those "movie moments" where I flashed back to the vibrant Philadelphia autumns of my childhood. Back to a time when we'd paint our faces because the 5-cent masks at the variety store were too expensive to buy and too dangerous to clip. We'd then transform from the usual little angels that we always were to the little devils of All Hallows' Eve.
Our evening was filled with stuffing mailboxes with leaves, ringing doorbells and running, tipping an outhouse where we could find one, leading the iceman's horse into Old Mrs. Crabbe's classroomand, yes, soaping windows. Actually, it was a blessing: think how many wives got nice clean windows after their husbands were pressed into service because of our "good deeds"!
So now, here I am in my "Handsome Devil" costume, so appropriately chosen by R.L., a fresh bar of castile in my hand, stealing through the prop bushes toward the window. What shall I soap on it? Hmmm. How about "T.O. LOVES..."

- Halloween costume was created by designer Frank Ingenito for the Trent Osborn doll.
