The Story of "Lady Cat"

1946. Violet Waters sat in her dressing bungalow at Monolithic Studios. She sighed. The Studio had been very kind to her, supplying her with everything she wanted. Everything, that is, except a meaty role in one of their "A" pictures. Not that she minded playing featured roles and doing cameo spots in Monolithic musicals, but something inside her burned to show Reuben Lilienthal just what she was made of—that his instincts in signing her to a contract hadn't been wrong.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. When she opened it, there was a Monolithic Studio runner with a stack of boxes in his arms. "Special delivery from R.L., Miss Waters. It's for the big trick-or-treat party—picked it out himself! Gotta deliver these to the other stars. S'long!"

Violet was flattered—R.L. cared enough to count her as one of his "stars." She opened the box and took out... "A sweet kitten costume. So that's how he sees me," thought Violet. "Well, R.L., you're in for a treat and this should do the trick!" And she set to work with her scissors and some old costumes from the closet.

That night at the party, a "lady cat" slinked in instead of the kitten R.L. expected. Amid a chorus of wolf whistles, Violet presented her trick-or-treat bag to R.L. and purred, "Trick-or-treat—got any good roles?"

R.L. laughed, then turned to his assistant and said, "Remind me to call Development tomorrow—I have an idea for 'Miss Katz' here I'd like them to work on..."

The "Lady Cat" Ensemble
  • Violet is on the prowl in this Kool Kitten Koncoction!
  • Her spotted fur tailcoat actually sports a tail—and she's all ears in a matching hat with a feather (where IS that canary?).
  • Her form-fitting satiny gold top needs no skirt—just a row of black tassels to swing provocatively as she struts her stuff.
  • Fishnet hose, gold ribbon shoes, a cat mask and a meow-velous trick-or-treat bag make a purr-fect outfit for Halloween.
  • Violet's Halloween costume was created by renowned designer Van Craig.
